De-Sealing Drive

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s de-sealing drive gained momentum on Wednesday with the civic body squads removing seals of over 2,200 shops in the 11 civic zones. During the past two days, the MCD has de-sealed around 2,800 shops operating from residential areas.

A total of 627 shops were de-sealed in Shahdara-South zone, while seals of 272 shops were broken in Karol Bagh, 265 in West, 258 in Central, 210 in Civil Lines, 178 in City, 149 in Shahdara-North, 107 in Sadar Paharganj, 81 in Najafgarh, 45 in Rohini and 31 in South.

Major areas and roads covered during the drive included Idgah Road, Qutab Road, Darya Ganj, Civil Lines, South Extension, Lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh, Najafgarh, Bijwasan, Kohat Enclave, Pitampura, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, Roshanara Road, Laxmi Nagar, Patparganj, Shakarpur, Adchini, Greater Kailash, Kailash Colony, Zamrudpur, Uttam Nagar, Janakpuri, Tilak Nagar, Hari Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Paschim Vihar and Vikaspuri.

During its sealing drive against illegal shops operating from residential areas, the MCD had sealed 14,060 shops in 11 civic zones — Civil Lines (2,776 shops) Shahdara-South (1,838), West (1,689), Karol Bagh (1,583), Rohini (1,105), Central (1,067), Najafgarh (914), Shahdara-North (870), Sadar Paharganj (857), City (420), South (401).

The MCD had also de-sealed 5,710 shops of those shop-owners who had given their affidavits to the Supreme Court. The shops were de-sealed in all the 11 zones — Civil Lines (929 shops), Central (831), West (674), Karol Bagh (578), Najafgarh (520), Rohini (460), Shahdara-South (428), Shahdara-North (391), South (329), Sadar Paharganj (315) and City (254).
