Delhi Sealing : Bill to extend ban on sealing introduced in Lok Sabha
Aiming at giving relief to a large number of people of Delhi from sealing, the Government has introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to extend by one more year the moratorium on punitive action against various categories of unauthorised commercial properties in the city.
The National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill, 2009, introduced by Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy, seeks to maintain status quo in respect of unauthorised colonies, including village abadis (settlements) and their extensions, storages, warehouses and godowns for farm produce and some other categories.
The Bill — valid between January 1 and December 31, 2009 — aims at replacing the law, which expired on December 31. In the absence of such a legislative intervention, the Supreme Court orders for sealing would have to be implemented.
