Sealing confusion regarding the Delhi urbanised villages
18 03 2008The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday said that it would be filing an affidavit in Supreme Court that the term village abadi also includes urbanised villages like Shahpur Jat and Haus Khas. Therefore, the relief provided to traders in rural villages, under the Central government notification issued on January 30, should also be extended to urban villages and around 9,000 properties in urbanised villages would be desealed thereafter.
SC on February 18 had asked MCD to clear the confusion regarding the Capital’s urbanised villages and asked it to clear its stand towards such areas by filing an affidavit within three weeks as the SC-appointed monitoring committee had asked the civic agencies to begin sealing in urbanised villages.
According to MCD, for regularised plotted development of Delhi, vast land of farmers was acquired. Thereafter, the farmers opened commercial establishments outside their villages. Later, these villages were urbanised but no cultural or geographical change was visible even as the structure of houses might have changed. Said Arya: “The term village abadi includes urban villages under various provisions of the Master Plan 2021 and subsequent notifications. Since majority of properties sealed comes under DDA, it is imperative for Central government to direct it to file a similar affidavit as us. ‘’
