PCAIT Renews Appeal against Delhi Sealing

September 8th, 2007 admin

In its strife to protect the interests of partners operating out of the non-commercial areas of Delhi, the Progressive Channels Association of Information Technology (PCAIT) has decided to sustain pressure on the government for exemption of the IT class from land sealing.

“The executive members of the Delhi-based association will call on Ajay Maken, union minister of State for Urban Development, to ventilate their views on the matter,” said V. Krishnan, executive secretary of PCAIT.

During the meeting, the PCAIT delegation will appeal to the Minister for the inclusion of IT traders in the existing categories of professionals who are permitted to operate in the residential or non-commercial areas. “We’ve prepared a memorandum pleading a revision of the existing categories-including lawyers, chartered accountants, doctors, and architects who can operate from home. We’ll meet the Minister and are hopeful that he’ll conform to our request,” said Krishnan.

He explained that partners had been operating in the non-commercial areas for a long time and had businesses that were well established. “Relocation takes a very long time and enormous funds. It’s impossible for partners to move out of the non-commercial areas,” said Krishnan.

According to him, a prolonged delay in rectifying a mistake only aggravates the situation further and would only end up as a negative catalyst for the IT business. Hundreds of channel partners in Delhi are expected to be impacted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s sealing drive to remove shops from residential areas, in deference to the Supreme Court ruling in 2005.
