Delhi zones should have better facilities for citizens

September 7th, 2007 admin

The Delhi Development Authority Board at its meeting on Thursday discussed the zonal plans and agreed that there should be provision for maternity homes, electric grid, adequate greenery, old-age homes, supply of potable drinking water, sports complex, educational institutions and at least two hospitals in each of the Capital’s zones.

The suggestions were made by non-official member of the Delhi Development Authority, Zile Singh Chauhan.

Mr. Chauhan also suggested that there should be provision for construction of roads aimed at easing traffic congestion. Building roads which link arterial roads with by-passes or Ring Road should be allowed at the zonal level, he added.

Mr. Chauhan also raised the issue of compensation to farmers whose land has been acquired by the DDA. He pointed out that alternative plots that are provided to the farmers in lieu of acquisition had not been allotted in the last three years.

According to Mr. Chauhan, Lieutenant-Governor and DDA Chairman Tejendra Khanna assured him that the process would be expedited.
