Delhi Sealing : SC asks MCD to seal commercial units
The Supreme Court while toughening its stand on the sealing issue on Monday directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to shut down 1500 unauthorised colonies here within three weeks.
The government while criticising the apex court vehemently reacted to the order by stating that the court was dictating terms.
The court instructed the sealing of illegal commercial units much to the discomfiture of the Centre which in a bid to provide immediate relief to slum dwellers, hawkers and street vendors had said earlier that it would bring in an ordinance to avoid forcible action against unauthorised development to grant temporary relief. The ordinance had been approved for promulgation by the Union Cabinet in June this year.
It is also to address the issue of unauthorised development in the existing farmhouses involving construction beyond permissible building limits and schools, dispensaries, religious and cultural institutions in rural areas built on agricultural land for a period of one year in Delhi.
