Approach apex court on sealing: Vardhan

August 26th, 2007 admin

In view of the direction of the Supreme Court on sealing in unauthorised colonies, the Delhi BJP president has written a letter to Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy demanding that the Ministry submit an affidavit in the Supreme Court on August 27 to assure that all the unauthorised colonies would be regularised within a fixed time frame and so the sealing in these colonies should be stopped.

Mr. Vardhan said “if this does not serve the purpose then the people of these colonies should be given relief through an Amnesty scheme”.

Stating that starting of sealing in the unauthorised colonies would result in great difficulty to the nearly 40 lakh people living in them and would also render lakhs of people unemployed, the BJP leader cautioned that this may also lead to a law and order problem.

Pointing out that the Union Cabinet had on February 8, 2007 decided to regularise all the unauthorised colonies, Dr Vardhan said while six months have passed, the process of regularisation of these colonies has not been completed.
Negligence alleged

He charged that negligence and red-tapism in the Union Ministry and the Delhi Government were responsible for crisis that the people were facing.

In the letter, Dr. Vardhan has also raised the issue of allowing one more floor on residential buildings.

He said while the Union Ministry had allowed people to construct one more storey, this case is also under litigation and hence those occupying the fourth floor are living under constant fear and suspense.

He demanded that efforts be made to resolve this issue too at the earliest.
