Delhi bandh not to affect sealing operations
The sealing of unauthorised commercial establishments in residential areas of the capital will continue today, notwithstanding a bandh called by traders to protest the court-ordered action.
The Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee has issued directions to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in this regard and has handed over a list of establishments to be sealed during the day.
“Sealing is on. Bandh will not have any affect on the operations,” official sources said, adding the drive is likely to resume in a posh South Delhi colony.
Traders’ associations in the capital have called for a bandh in the city today, to protest the resumption of the sealing drive.
Traders will take out a ‘Shanti March’ from Town Hall, the MCD headquarters, to the Delhi Assembly. The controversial drive has so far targeted big shops and malls in posh South Delhi, with the civic body sealing 237 commerical establishments after the action was resumed two days ago.
The MCD has been carrying out the action in South Delhi areas and so far has covered areas like Ashram, Lajpat Nagar, Safdarjung Enclave and Bhikhaji Cama Place.
Sealing teams, accompanied by a large posse of security personnel, had sealed the popular Haldiram’s outlet, Jagdish Furnishing Store, Regency Guest House and Air Hostess Academy at Lajpat Nagar on the Ring Road.
Meanwhile, the three-member panel has permitted telecom regulator, TRAI, to operate from a building in South Delhi, which was sealed, for one more month. (Some Reports suggests that time given for TRAI is 15 days.)
