Traders lose hope as SC orders sealing

Traders are losing hope as the Group of Ministers (GoM) has decided to go ahead with the Supreme Court (SC) order to resume sealings immediately.

“I was 12-years-old when my father opened his shop. Now 36 years later, we are being told that we will be uprooted,” said a trader.

Around 44,000 traders across the Capital have been left in the lurch yet again.

Rejecting the Government’s plea, the SC has ruled that sealing will continue as per orders with immediate effect.

The police have been asked to provide extra security to ward off a law and order problem.

“The SC said if you down shutters on your own we can consider your case later,” said an advocate at SC, Mahendra Rana.

Earlier, both the Central Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had approached the apex court seeking a break in the sealing drive citing the worsening law and order situation and supporting the interests of the traders.

But the SC wasn’t impressed with that and now the traders say the ball in the Government’s court.

“The Government can amend the Constitution or do anything to give the traders some respite,” said President of All India Traders Confederation, Praveen Khandelwal.

But this time, even the Government seems to have thrown up its hands.

Meanwhile, after the SC judgment, the group of ministers met and decided to go by what the apex court has ordered.

With the Government towing the line with the SC, Delhites should be prepared for the worst. As angry traders are willing to take law into their own hands, there are troubled days ahead for the Capital.
